Affordability of homes in county dips, but still near record best

San Diego County housing remains at near-record affordability levels, but rising prices could once again make it harder for buyers to land their American dream.

The National Association of Home Builders reported yesterday that 56 percent of homes sold locally in the second quarter of the year were affordable to median-household incomes.

That was down slightly from the record high of 58.8 percent in the first quarter, according to the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index, which dates to 1991.
